Tsuta Ramen

Tsuta Ramen has been in Hudson, WI for some time, but it's tucked away in an old strip mall in uptown that has only recently had new occupants, so if you hadn't accidentally stumbled upon it or read about the opening in the paper, you might not know it was there.  Looking for something new, we decided to try it out.  I have to admit, my experience with real Japanese cuisine has been very limited and those purists out there would say not at all, so I went in completely open-minded.    My son is very picky and I was afraid he would struggle, but he didn't.

Overall, the meal was good.  I had the Tonkotsu Ramen, which is sliced pork belly, scallions, boiled egg, corn, white onion and a slice of fish cake in a pork bone broth over ramen noodles, of course.  I enjoyed the meal and my only negative thought was there was too much broth.  It was a soup essentially, but at the end the broth overtook my tastebuds and was perhaps too much.  This is probably on me as I may not have had pork bone broth before, but the rest of it was quite good.  I washed it down with a Kirin Ichiban beer, which pared well with my meal.  My son had a Cha-Shu Donburi dish that is rice with shredded pork, nori, boiled egg and rice seasoning.  He devoured it and said before I could ask that he would come back.  I saw many items on the menu that I would try and will definitely go for an appetizer next time.  The price was reasonable, considering everything costs more these days.  The restaurant was clean and the service prompt.  There was a steady flow of patrons and they have a bar with what looks like a wide selection of sake, so it may not just be a food destination.  My overall experience was good and I recommend Tsuta Ramen for another go.  I still can't get the hang of chop sticks, but I brought mine home so I can work on it.
